Hello friends, and happy Sunday! I’ve lately rediscovered how much I love having these days to myself to do all of my favorite things, and am a firm believer that Sundays have the potential to be the best day of the week. Now don’t get me wrong, some weekends it might look like traveling back home or resting up from a jam-packed past few days. But there’s nothing better than waking up on a Sunday feeling ready to seize the day, and I love starting the week out feeling like I got to take some time for myself – and also feeling like I have my life a little bit together. So without further ado, I’m going to share a few ways I like to do exactly that!
To set the scene, it’s exactly 10am on Sunday morning – if you know me, you know any good day starts out by getting to sleep until double digits – and sunshine is streaming through the windows. Birds are chirping. It’s a great day to have a great day. So what to do first? Have coffee, of course.
I recently set up an upgraded coffee corner in my kitchen that I’ll share soon, and it’s really leveled up my at-home coffee experience. We’re talking freshly brewed espresso, extra frothy oat milk, and maybe even a little caramel syrup and a side of biscotti – because today is also a great day to treat ourselves.
Now that the coffee has been poured, it’s time to make some moves. And by this, I mean moves to the couch to watch some YouTube videos while we do some writing or reading. I could, for example, be writing this very post, or working on that novel I may finish in twenty years, or flipping eagerly through my new favorite Elin Hildebrand book.
Next up, it’s time for some fuel. A great day is always made better by a great breakfast, so I’m sure I’ll chef up some fantastic meal (and by that I mean eggs or a smoothie – but maybe with a side of cinnamon rolls, because again, I’m a big believer in treating yourself).
Now that we’re feeling caffeinated, fed, and well-read, we might as well do a little (and I do mean a LITTLE) cleaning. Tidying up the kitchen and the bedroom and tossing in some laundry makes me feel like a whole new woman.
Next, it’s time to reward ourselves by enjoying some of that mid-afternoon sunshine and getting the heart rate pumping! I love getting out for a walk, a run, or some rooftop yoga on Sundays – it’s a nice treat to really take my time without having to squeeze in a little workout like I try to do during the weekdays.
My perfect Sunday always includes a trip to the holy land also known as Trader Joe’s, so that’s what’s next on the itinerary. It doesn’t matter what we actually end up taking home, it’s the journey itself that is the best part. Wandering through those aisles is my version of therapy, and it’s always a pleasant surprise to see what ingredients I end up pulling together for myself that week.
And because the fridge is now well-stocked with all the best things, we can of course make an amazing dinner (read: probably some variation of salmon, quinoa and veggies) that can be repurposed for meals throughout the week like the resourceful people we are, and if we’re lucky, also do some baking. Banana bread, here I come.
At this point, the sun has set and it’s time to start winding down from our fabulously productive day. Remember that laundry from earlier? I don’t know if this is strange, but folding that nice pile of warm, clean clothes is actually my favorite way to settle in for the night. I light a candle, toss on some Gilmore Girls and fold away, and then it’s time to get cozy.
Now, after an action-packed day, we can sleep soundly and wake up ready for the week ahead. That’s what I love about Sundays – I hope you do too. ☼
