We all know I love a New England summer, but even once those long, golden days begin to dwindle and the tan lines fade, the charm of this little corner of the world remains. New England is home to some of my favorite places for fall getaways, winter staycations, and spring escapes – in addition to being summer’s most picturesque playground.
So if you’re wondering where to go in New England year-round, here are my top five destinations that never disappoint.

#5. Portland, Maine
Perfect for: weekend getaways, foodie finds, and outdoor adventures.
Dare I say the crown jewel of my home state? I feel luckier and luckier to be able to return to this adorable seaside city time and time again. Portland is brimming with incredible restaurants, craft breweries, and coastal charm – all located a mere 1.5 hours from Boston. It’s walkable, scenic, and full of personality, whether you’re strolling along the Old Port or enjoying a sunset by the water.

#4. Cape Cod, Massachusetts
Perfect for: peaceful beach walks, quaint downtown exploring, and cozy coastal weekends.
I feel so lucky to now call Cape Cod home – it’s truly my happy place. While it’s a go-to summer destination for New Englanders, it’s arguably at its most beautiful during September and October when the crowds thin and the ocean air turns crisp, and can also offer a cozy holiday retreat and a refreshing spring respite. Each town has its own unique charm, with dune-backed beaches, local boutiques, and small-town coffee shops around every corner.

#3. Newport, Rhode Island
Perfect for: romantic weekends, history lovers, and anyone craving old-world seaside elegance.
This coastal gem is packed with things to do and see – from touring the Gilded Age mansions to strolling the Cliff Walk with panoramic ocean views. There’s always plenty going on, with year-round events, boatloads of shopping, dining, and even sailing experiences. Every time I return to Newport I love it even more!

#2. Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts
Perfect for: laid-back luxury, scenic bike rides, and quintessential island living.
I’ve visited Martha’s Vineyard in both summer and fall, and each season brings its own kind of magic. From the dramatic cliffs of Aquinnah to the pastel gingerbread cottages of Oak Bluffs and the timeless charm of Edgartown, the Vineyard is the definition of coastal perfection. Add in rolling fields, grazing animals, and endless ocean views, and you’ll understand why this New England island feels so special.

#1. Nantucket, Massachusetts
Perfect for: dreamy summer vacations, chic seaside dining, and off-season serenity.
No surprises here – Nantucket has my heart. Quite possibly my favorite place on Earth, this island feels like stepping into a storybook the second you arrive. Think cobblestone streets, gray-shingled cottages draped in roses, and hydrangea-filled patios everywhere you turn. With endless beaches, world-class restaurants, and postcard-perfect scenery, it’s the ultimate New England escape.
The Magic of New England, Year-Round
No matter the season, you can find year-round magic in New England if you look in the right places. From Portland’s foodie scene to mansions of Newport to the fairytale streets of Nantucket, there’s truly something to experience for everyone. So whether you’re planning a cozy winter getaway or a seaside summer escape, I hope you’re able to find something special in one of these amazing places. Happy travels! ☼
