It’s the most wonderful time of the year! There’s so many things I love about December – the first snow, the Christmas carols, the holiday baking, the decorations, the cozying up by the fire all day long, the holiday traditions, the seeing loved ones, the time off from work.
But I think the thing I love most about the holiday season is the way it brings people together. Strangers are kinder to each other, people come together to celebrate, gifts are exchanged. This year, I’ve been to a few gatherings for the holidays and gotten to meet lovely people who I wouldn’t have otherwise, and several strangers have helped me out when I needed it with a simple “happy holidays!” as an explanation.
With Covid sadly ramping up again, and many people feeling isolated, potentially unable to see loved ones during the holidays, I’ve noticed even more how one little interaction with someone can truly make a difference. Now more than ever, it’s a great time to pass some of that holiday spirit on however we can. Maybe it’s volunteering, showing kindness to strangers, leaving a nice comment on someone’s post, showing some love to small businesses, paying for someone’s coffee, getting someone a thoughtful gift, or making a donation somewhere close to our hearts. No matter how big or small, it’s such a great feeling to put a smile on someone else’s face, and there’s no better time than the present to make that happen. Let’s spread that holiday cheer like snow, people! ☼
