Happy November, friends! This month brings many things – a brisk chill in the air, a plethora of delicious meals, a high-stakes election, and cyber month deals, to name a few. And as of this past week, it also signifies the end of daylight savings and the beginning of what I tend to call the dark days. Winter is upon us, and I know more than anyone the effect that can have on our mood, energy levels, and overall well being. While it might feel a bit dreary at first, I’m here to help provide some inspiration to find a lil’ sunshine, even with dwindling hours of daylight. Read on for a few tips to chase the sun over these next few winter months!
- Rise and shine! Waking up earlier may not be the answer you wanted to hear, but the truth hurts, as they say. The sun is now rising at 6am and therefore we must, too. And have no fear – since it’s getting dark at 5pm, it’ll be easier than ever to get to sleep nice and early for a full nights’ rest!
- Set a sunrise alarm. Speaking of waking up early, investing in a Hatch alarm clock was one of the best decisions I ever made. I put a soothing light on before bed and am lulled to sleep by the calming sounds of rainfall, and awaken each morning to a California sunrise accompanied by notes from a mystical flute floating through the air. It’s never been easier to wake up, no matter the hour, thanks to having my own personal sunrise. If you can’t have the real thing, might as well manufacture it, am I right?
- Brighten up. Maximizing natural light at home is a great way to feel like your sunniest self. Simply open up those blinds and enjoy some sunshine from the glory of the indoors for a guaranteed mood boost. I sometimes just sit in front of a window for a few minutes a day to soak up the sun!
- Get your daily dose. Speaking of Vitamin D, most of us are likely deficient in this key vitamin. Grab yourself a supplement and take it every day – it’s an easy way to help feel your best self.
- Get outside. We could probably all make more of an effort to step away from our work during the day, and I’m here to advocate for us to use that break to get outside, even if it’s just for a few minutes. Feeling the sun on your skin and a little bit of fresh air will help revive you for the afternoon ahead, guaranteed.
- Turn up the heat. No matter the weather, going to a hot yoga class is a guaranteed way to remember what warmth feels like. It may be forty degrees outside, but step inside a Corepower studio and you’ll be immediately enveloped in a ninety five degree hug. It almost makes you ready for the cold that’s waiting for you outside! Almost.
- Light your fire. And by that I mean lighting a few candles. It might not be sunlight, but you can’t beat basking in the soft glow of a pumpkin scented candle to boost those endorphins.
- Chase the sun. Lastly, when all else fails, book a trip somewhere warm. There’s nothing like knowing there’s sunshine in your future to make the present a little brighter.
That’s all for today! I hope I helped shed some light on how we can embrace the sunny moments even as the days get shorter this year. Here’s to a happy November and a short Winter ahead! ☼
