There’s nothing like the promise of a giant feast to ramp up the gratitude during this time of year. While 2020 has certainly been filled with unexpected events, I like to think that the holidays will always be a happy time, even if they look a little different this year. There’s still plenty to be thankful for, including that delicious meal we’ll be digging into tomorrow!
Lately, I’ve been challenging myself to be actively thankful everyday, not just on Thanksgiving. I find that forcing myself to find the good things in my life, even on my worst days, keeps me grounded by forcing myself to realize how lucky I am. So what does that look like? It’s expressing your appreciation for people in your life who bring joy. It’s remembering to be grateful for the little things. It might even be keeping a gratitude journal – this is a new habit for me and it is something I highly recommend!
I’m thankful for cozy days at home (made even cozier by a surprise snow shower this morning), my little family, my pets who won’t stop terrorizing me, for yoga, and for the yummy pies and homemade bread in the oven. Even on my worst days, it’s not hard to find gratitude for my apartment that I love, for my health, my favorite songs, or for my boyfriend who always makes me smile.
So in the year where nothing has quite gone as planned, I hope we can all still find a few things to be happy about, and keep that gratitude flowing well past Thanksgiving. What are you thankful for today? ☼
