Happy (end of) Fall y’all! As the last of the leaves fall and the holiday season comes barreling around the corner, I’m thinking it’s time for another seasonal life update.
With all the chaos that ensues during sweet sweet summertime, I always love the consistency that fall brings. I’m home more, I’m able to get back into somewhat of a routine, and I’ve certainly been enjoying the crisp, sunny days – and, naturally, soaking up my share of pumpkin spice.
Last year at this time, I wrote about all the changes that I felt like accompanied this season, and it’s nice to look back and see how much has settled into place since then. My mom has a new house (with new pets!) that I love being able to visit, my brother moved closer to Boston, and I resigned my lease for another year in my apartment that I love – with my same roommates that I love! I’ve now been in the same role at work for over a year, and have gotten to work on some really exciting projects because of it. I feel like I have a good weekly routine (which sometimes even includes a few dog walks), and I am overall very happy with life.
But that’s not to say that there hasn’t still been change to adapt to. I’ve had more time to myself as I get used to not being in a relationship, and I’m going back into the office 3 days a week, which has been more of an adjustment than I expected. And I also can’t help but feel a little unsettled, because I’m not sure where I’ll be at this time next year. I’m so happy where I am right now, but work feels uncertain given the state of the economy, friends are talking about what’s next after Boston, winter is coming, and I feel the quarter life crisis hitting hard.
Overall, I think I feel pressure to make sure I do everything I could possibly want to while I’m young, from making lots of plans to figuring out my career to exploring the world, but this shouldn’t be at the expense of enjoying the present. I wrote earlier this year about the grass always being greener, and I think that’s something important to remind myself of now!
It’s been a great fall and although I’d be lying if I said I was thrilled about winter fast approaching, there’s certainly still plenty to look forward to. Here’s to a festive fall and a happy holiday season ahead! ☼
