Hi friends, and happy New Year! I recently moved into my very own apartment, living alone for the first time — and I have been absolutely loving it. There’s just something magical about starting fresh with a space that’s all yours. Over the past few months, I’ve been working to make it feel like home, and I’m excited to share my favorite affordable finds that helped me achieve a cozy, coastal aesthetic without breaking the bank!
The Living Room
First, it was helpful to grab a few pieces that would set the tone for the most important space in the apartment. My living room isn’t huge, so it was important for me to find some small living space solutions that had a big impact.
I knew as soon as I signed my lease that the Wayfair Yates Sectional was destined to be one of those foundational pieces. This versatile sectional has been a game-changer for my living room. It’s the perfect size, and arrived in two boxes that miraculously fit up my narrow stairs perfectly. Aside from the size, I love it for three reasons: It has the perfect chaise component to provide everyday comfort, that very same chaise provides some much-needed extra storage underneath, and it pulls out easily for guests or an extra cozy movie night. I can’t say enough great things about this sofa, and I love the way it helped pull the space together.
I then laid the groundwork for the coastal vibe I was going for with a blue oriental rug and a rattan entertainment console. The blue tones paired with the natural textures and clean lines of the TV stand were exactly what I needed. Then, of course, we have an unbelievable deal I had bookmarked for years – the $30 Ikea coffee table. It assembles in seconds and looks fantastic! And lastly, this armoire provided a simple, tasteful touch to my living space while also helping to solve for my severe lack of closet space.
The Dining Area
Please note that this is not called the dining room, because it is truly just a slight extension of my living space, but alas! I was pleasantly surprised with the dining set I ordered, which was a great deal and adds a fresh, clean look that fits perfectly with my coastal vision. And when looking for a small desk to round out the space, this one fit the bill! It may be for kids, but it’s the perfect size for my very adult apartment. And of course, a set of lightweight curtains help the living area feel bright and airy while letting in all the natural sunlight I love so much.
The Bedroom
Now let’s take this to the bedroom, shall we? I’m happy to report that my upholstered bed successfully survived the move, and continues to provide added storage where it’s needed most. I was thrilled to find this set of rattan nightstands that accents it perfectly with a light coastal touch, and the cherry on top is my favorite purchase of all – my matching set of scalloped Birch Lane lamps. Round it out with the best Ikea dresser ever and a set of impressively high-quality darkening curtains, and we have ourselves a bedroom fit for a queen – or at least a corporate girl in her twenties!
Between Wayfair and Ikea, let this be your sign that you can create a beautiful, functional space on a budget. If you’re looking for affordable finds to make your apartment feel like home, I hope this guide inspires you. I’m thrilled with how my apartment has turned out and am so excited to continue making it my own. Happy shopping! 🌞
