We already know I’m a huge proponent of self-care in every form, whether that be a face mask at the end of a long day, cooking yourself a nutritious meal, getting your nails done, going to therapy, or anything in between. But my personal favorite kind of self-care is definitely the hardest to accomplish – the type where you truly drop everything in order to relax, letting your priorities go to the wayside. We could all use one of those days, and whenever you can swing it, I’m here to tell you the absolute best way to spend it.
I recently had the pleasure of staying at Mirbeau Inn and Spa, less than an hour from Boston but somehow immediately providing the feeling of being a lifetime away. Between the turrets appointing the main house, the stone exterior of the restaurant, the lilly-spotted koi pond complete a bridge for you to meander over, and the ornately decorated bedroom, the property transports you into a fairytale that you won’t want to leave. After just a twenty four hour stay I left feeling refreshed, rejuvenated, and ready to take on anything.
People obviously visit Mirbeau for the spa – and I’ll get to that in a minute – but everything at this inn is designed in a way that is luxurious and relaxing from the moment you set foot inside. There are fireplaces tucked in every corner, gorgeous sun-drenched sitting areas, and spa music tinkling over the speakers at all times. The restaurant is elaborate and complete with a (fully stocked) bar, an outdoor area that truly feels like you are dining in the koi pond itself, and a delicious menu complete with five-star service.
And of course, it wouldn’t be a worthwhile retreat if it wasn’t guaranteed to provide the best sleep of your life. My king room was fit for a queen – tastefully adorned in purple and equipped with its own fireplace and a spacious bathroom with an oversized tub. I did indeed take my first bath in years, complete with a complementary lavender bath bomb, of course. There are sound machines next to the bed playing more of that magical spa music and even a lavender sleep spray to lull you straight to sleep. And when you awake bright eyed and bushy tailed the next morning, there’s a Lavazza espresso machine waiting to make you the perfect cup of happiness.
Now onto the best part: the spa. Mirbeau has a full-floor wellness studio + spa, where you can (and I did) participate in a restful yoga class, head to the aqua terrace to enjoy some sun, a jacuzzi, and drinks, lounge in the relaxation room, and of course, receive any treatment your heart desires. My selection was their signature massage, which was enjoyed beside another roaring fireplace and competed with a signature scent of my choosing.
Overall, I can’t say enough great things about my magical stay at Mirbeau. This was the perfect birthday trip with my mom, but could also serve as the perfect couples’ retreat, girls’ trip, or solo getaway. If you were looking for a sign to treat yourself to a self-care weekend, this is it! ☼
