Happy 2024, friends! I am personally thrilled to have recently rung in a new year, and I love the fresh mindset that it brings for several reasons. First, it’s a great time to reflect on all of the amazing experiences and accomplishments that 2023 brought. Going back through twelve months of memories is always fun, and it’s so rewarding to reflect on the amount of goals we might have set that came to fruition throughout the year – many of which I know I probably wouldn’t even think twice about now. Second, it’s the perfect time (coming out of a week-long hibernation like I just had) to take a step back and realign on what we want to focus our time and energy on to best the best version of ourselves, something I certainly don’t do as often as I should. And lastly, there’s no better time to scour Pinterest for a lil’ mood board inspiration, and I have been having a blast visualizing exactly what I’d like the year to look like in no uncertain terms. So let’s talk about a few goals I have for the year that I think we can all apply to feel good in 2024!
1. Slowing down. I talked recently about being softer with myself, and my goal is to carry this mindset into the new year. From being more intentional about what I say yes to, how frequently I travel, and overall just prioritizing taking care of myself so I can feel my best, this is single handedly my biggest goal of 2024. I struggled with feeling run down for the majority of last year, and am determined to find ways to fuel myself both physically and mentally so that I can feel alive awake alert enthusiastic as much as possible. This goes hand in hand with choosing to spend time with people who truly fill my cup, doing things that fill my cup. As a first step, I’m testing out dry January to give my body a break, and am so excited to see how it feels to keep that cup alcohol-free for a few weeks!
2. Reimagining my mornings. I don’t know about you, but for anyone back in the office most days, I struggle with finding enough time for myself during the week. This here is my solution – waking up earlier (and yes, that means I will also have to force myself into a much-needed earlier bed time) to either enjoy a nice workout or simply have a lovely hour to myself filled with a little coffee, a little writing, and a little relaxation before the day kicks off! I have to say, my Hatch alarm clock is definitely a huge help here – I can set a consistent routine complete with relaxing rain sounds and a sunrise to help me start and end the day on the right note.
3. Finding more time for hobbies. Another goal of mine is to dedicate more time on the things that bring me joy – writing, reading, baking, running, yoga, cooking, and finding creative outlets. Balancing this with work and social life isn’t always easy, but I’m always my happiest when I find a way to! I’m hoping that my new and improved morning routine helps with this, but my goal is also to feel comfortable occasionally saying no to plans to prioritize what I truly want to be doing, and also combining these interests with a social life where possible. It’s even more fun to go to a workout class with a friend, and I recently joined a run club to meet some new people and make the freezing cold morning jogs more enjoyable. And doing things like book clubs give me an excuse to read all day!
4. Refreshing my health and fitness mindset. I’ve said it before and I’ve said it again – I really just want to feel my best this year. So in 2024, my health and fitness goals aren’t anything crazy, but rather finding ways to feel my best throughout the week, hopefully with more home-cooked meals, yoga, running, and morning workouts. I do hope to work myself up to doing another half marathon later this year if it feels right, but last year I learned that it’s also okay if it doesn’t. Overall, working towards eating more whole foods and embodying the mindset of getting to move my body rather than having to goes a long way here – I do truly feel my best when I’m consistently incorporating movement into my day and I should appreciate the fact that I can!
5. Focusing on my career goals. It’s always exciting to think about what energizes me in my career, and I’m hoping that this year can be a clarifying one for me in terms of my long-term goals. With that, I’m also hoping to set and stick to some savings goals and prioritize setting myself up for success a bit more as I enter my almost sort of late twenties?!! How did that happen?!
Overall, I’d say there’s a common theme in my goals for 2024 – being intentional. Saying yes to the right things, being mindful of how I spend my time, and surrounding myself with things and people that make me the happiest so that I can feel my best. I’ve already started applying some of this mindset in the first few days of the year, and I have to say that it has been lovely! Hopefully this is helpful to you while you set some goals for yourself, and hopefully we can all feel like the best versions of ourselves in 2024. Cheers – it feels like a great year to have a great year. ☼
