Happy first few weeks of fall, friends! It’s hard to believe that another New England summer has come to a close. We all know I love the sunshine season more than anything, but as soon as that first crisp breeze floats through the air, I can’t help but be excited to welcome cozy oversized sweaters and piping hot cups of coffee back into my life. And in the interest of spreading sunshine, I’m here to tell you all the reasons why this season might be the best one yet!
Even though Fall is not necessarily back to school season for all of us anymore, I still like to view it as a fresh start. A shift in the seasons, a change of the wardrobe, and in Boston, of course, a new lease cycle for each and every resident beginning on September 1st all present a plethora of new opportunities. This Fall I moved into a new apartment, and it brought a sense of much-needed change after several years of being in the same space. There’s nothing quite like having a fresh slate in the form of an empty apartment to decorate! So whether this season is bringing big or small change to your life, I think it’s a great reminder to embrace a new chapter and do what we can to make the most of it.
After months of being on the go trying to take advantage of summer, Fall is also a great excuse to take more time to enjoy the little things. As someone who values routine more and more every year, it’s nice to be able to slow down and enjoy time in my own city. Having more time to grocery shop, exercise, and do things for myself makes a world of difference for my overall happiness, and I’m sure it will for you too.
As the weather gets colder we’re also undoubtedly spending more time at home, which can be a nice change of pace. It’s time to toss on a cozy sweat set, light a candle and watch some football – or, preferably, Gilmore Girls on repeat. Maybe I’m just getting old, but in my opinion there’s frankly nothing better than a slow afternoon at home doing not much of anything at all.
And since we’re likely spending more time at home, that means we might actually have time to cook, bake, and embrace all of the best flavors Fall has to offer. From the infamous PSL to a hearty chili to cinnamon coffee cake, there are so many recipes to mix back into the rotation. And of course, I’ve rounded up all of my favorite fall recipes for easy enjoyment!
Lastly, while I can’t deny that Summer travel in New England is the best, a cozy Fall getaway takes a close second. Making a few travel plans is a guaranteed way to boost your serotonin this season, whether you’re craving a scenic retreat to the woods or a city adventure. Weekend trips to the Vineyard, New York, and Maine are scattered throughout my schedule in the next few months, and I can’t wait to experience them all as the weather gets colder and the leaves change. ☼
