Happy April, happy Spring, and happy Sunday, friends! I don’t know about you, but the day I can wake up with birds chirping outside my open window with sun streaming in is the day my cold, frozen heart officially thaws from the winter and I am me again.
Is it just me, or does this time of year make you feel like anything is possible? All of a sudden, there are so many more hours of sunlight in the day to get outside and frolic, have fun, and get sh*t done. So far this has looked like going for more runs (nothing rivals a post-work run after a stressful day, in my opinion), actually honoring my resolution to get more mid-day steps in, going to more workout classes, getting to the office more often, enjoying some outdoor dining, making a much-needed hair appointment, and lastly and most importantly, getting (at least a little bit) organized.
Now, I am the first to admit that I am by no means a neat freak. I like a clean space as much as the next girl, but a good cleaning typically commences once a week for me, max. But I have to say, something about this time of year gets me in an organizational FRENZY. I’ve already cleaned out my closet twice, reorganized and revamped my desk setup, and compiled two donation bags to literally free myself of unnecessary baggage – and it feels GREAT. I like to think of it as shedding my winter skin, and I promise you if you do the same you won’t regret it. Not to mention, once all this is done, it’s a great chance to give that newly-cleansed wardrobe or space a refresh! I’ve been consigning items locally and listing them on my Poshmark (sustainability, am I right), and then putting that money straight towards a few new and improved items for the season. New season, new me!
You might be wondering how to decide what items to give away and what will survive another spring. And to that my friend, I have a simple answer – what makes you happy? I realized that if I look at something, I pretty much always either feel happy and excited to wear/use it, or a little unhappy or stressed out because I don’t want to. So all those things that weren’t bringing me joy are now gone! Also, when it comes to clothes specifically, I heard a helpful tip the other day – if you’d wear it out the door today, keep it. If not, maybe don’t.
Whatever it looks like for you, I hope you’re able to start channeling a bit of your best selves this month. Obviously, not every day looks as perfect as we might like, but I like to think that little changes here and there can go a long way. Spring has sprung, and so have WE, people! Let’s make the most of it. ☼
